In order to best appreciate
the nature of love, it is necessary to understand the
characteristics of the origin of love, God. Though
invisible, the essential qualities of God are well known.
God is a being who is absolute, unchanging and eternal.
The only motivation God had in creating His children, was to
have partners with whom He could share love infinitely.
The Bible teaches that man and woman were created in the image
and likeness of God. When God created human beings, He
endowed us with the capacity to give and receive love eternally
with Him and with each other based on the family as the model of
ideal love. Therefore, true love is meant to last
eternally. The essential quality of true love is that it
exists for the sake of others. False love is selfish love
which seeks momentary pleasure at the expense of another without
any regard for the maturity and responsibility required for
nurturing eternal love which brings lasting eternal happiness.
